Create Goals

Once you’re on the same page about wanting to start budgeting it’s time to actually think of a goal. Now, this goal could be anything, and you can’t go without it. Whether you want to save for a new house, car, retirement, traveling (or whatever else), you need to have a discussion about it first.
If one partner wants to save in order to travel but the other thinks it’s best to buy a new home first then you have to reach a compromise. Maybe make your main goal saving for a new home but pepper in a few budget-friendly vacations here and there!
You might also inadvertently open up a discussion about your values, so be open and honest about what you’d like to achieve, when, and how.
