Continuous mining machine operators run the self-propelled machines that remove metal, rock, coal, or sand from a mine face. Then, they load the materials for removal. Working in or around a mine is stressful enough, but have you noticed the ‘continuous’ part of the job description?
These machines have to work constantly until some higher-up decides they should stop. They might be self-propelled, but that doesn’t mean operators aren’t having a hard time making sure everything’s going according to plan. And if the operation stops? It could very well cost the mining company a hefty amount. No pressure!
