Con: Combined Debt

We’ve previously mentioned debt, but we feel we should really hammer that idea. Once you say ‘I do’, your debt will also turn into your spouse’s debt and vice versa. Meaning that no matter what, you or they will be on the hook.

You could keep your money separately, right? Wrong. That’s not how debt works. Once you’re married, you’re both in this together.

So you should really consider getting married if you don’t have debt but your financially irresponsible partner does. Can you shoulder that sort of responsibility? What if you have debt of your own that you’re already trying to tackle?

Keep in mind that debt could be the reason behind a break-up too! It’s not impossible to work on it together, though!
