Apart from the controversial decisions that he took during his presidency, Harry Truman remains the poorest president in history. He was the first and only leader that chose to use nuclear weapons in war and served in the National Guard during World War I.

Business wise, he didn’t do a great job, as he was buried in debt because of a failed hat venture. He had to double his presidential salary to stay afloat.

Summary: Whether we are talking of before or after his presidential years, Harry Truman’s net worth never reached more than $1 million in today’s dollars through his entire life.

He may have died a wealthy man, but our next President’s legacy is a bit tricky…..
