Today, only 7 1787 New York-Style Brasher Doubloons are known to exist. These coins have been a media sensation ever since their discovery, breaking record after record.
They were discovered in 1848 and since then collectors have been looking for ways of getting their hands on them. In 1979, one doubloon broke a worldwide record after it sold for $750,000. It then continued to hold that record for a whole decade!
In January of this year, it was presented at Heritage Auctions in Texas, where one lucky buyer bid $9.36 million and won!
