1890 Grand Watermelon $1,000 treasury note

This is, by far, the world’s most valuable banknote. The 1890 Grand Watermelon $1,000 treasury note got its name because its zeroes looked like watermelons. Sometimes, that’s as little as it takes for something to go down in history!

At a 2014 auction, this famous note sold for $3.3 million dollars. But this particular note broke not one but two records! Back in December 2006, it was sold for $2,255,000 in a private sale. Before that, it was sold for $1,230 in 1944 and $11,000 in 1970!

1804/1830s Bust dollar coin

Known as the Bowed Liberty dollar coin, this elusive coin was sold for a staggering $4.1 million in 1999. Another specimen was sold for another mind-bending number, $3.9 million at an auction in 2013.

Only 15 of these are known to exist, and even if you happen to find one by some miracle, only what are known as Class I pieces go for such mind-boggling amounts.

Fun fact, these coins are dated 1804 but they were actually struck during the 1830s or later! I guess it just goes to show you can’t even trust money nowadays!
