If you filed for retirement or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) after May 1997, your birth date dictates your payment cycle. The agency groups payments across the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of every month.
This structure divides tens of millions of beneficiaries into three predictable distribution windows. It eliminates guesswork and helps households coordinate utility payments and mortgage dues.
- Second Wednesday (October 14, 2026): Delivers funds to recipients born between the 1st and the 10th day of any calendar month.
- Third Wednesday (October 21, 2026): Delivers funds to recipients born between the 11th and the 20th day of any calendar month.
- Fourth Wednesday (October 28, 2026): Delivers funds to recipients born between the 21st and the 31st day of any calendar month.
Your payment day depends entirely on the day of the month you were born, not your birth month or current age. For instance, an August 14 birthday falls into the second payment tier on October 21.
If you receive benefits based on a spouse’s work record, the agency assigns your payment date using the primary worker’s birth date. Surviving spouses follow this same rule when collecting on a deceased spouse’s earnings history.
