Special Payment Rules: SSI and Pre-1997 Beneficiaries
Beneficiaries who began claiming before May 1997 do not follow the Wednesday birth date schedule. Instead, the agency issues these payments on the third day of each calendar month.
When the third day lands on a weekend or federal holiday, the agency moves your payment date forward to the closest preceding business day. Because October 3, 2026, falls on a Saturday, beneficiaries receive their direct deposit on Friday, October 2.
Dual beneficiaries—individuals receiving both traditional Social Security retirement or disability and Supplemental Security Income—also follow this adjusted timeline. Their SSI arrives on October 1, followed by their Social Security benefit on October 2.
Supplemental Security Income recipients will notice an unusual deposit pattern in October 2026. The calendar awards SSI recipients two separate benefit checks in October and zero checks in November.
The standard November SSI payment date—November 1, 2026—falls on a Sunday. By federal law, the agency issues the payment on the preceding business day, which is Friday, October 30.
